Welcome to This Wednesday in Books, where we share what we’ve been up to in bookland this week and look ahead to next!
I’m about 25% through the chunky The Queens of Innis Lear by Tessa Gratton. It’s taking me a bit longer to get through than usual, as it’s a pretty hefty tome, and I don’t particularly fancy lugging it around everywhere. The story itself is also a bit slow going to be honest, but I’m a sucker for re-tellings and Shakespeare, and this one is both! I’ve been really looking forward to it, so I’m hoping the action picks up now we’re past part one.
A kingdom at risk, a crown divided, a family drenched in blood.
The erratic decisions of a prophecy-obsessed king have drained Innis Lear of its wild magic, leaving behind a trail of barren crops and despondent subjects. Enemy nations circle the once-bountiful isle, sensing its growing vulnerability, hungry to control the ideal port for all trade routes.
The king’s three daughters—battle-hungry Gaela, master manipulator Reagan, and restrained, starblessed Elia—know the realm’s only chance of resurrection is to crown a new sovereign, proving a strong hand can resurrect magic and defend itself. But their father will not choose an heir until the longest night of the year, when prophecies align and a poison ritual can be enacted.
Refusing to leave their future in the hands of blind faith, the daughters of Innis Lear prepare for war—but regardless of who wins the crown, the shores of Innis will weep the b
lood of a house divided.
I did some major catching up on some DC comic TPBs last week! I love a bit of comic book superhero shenanigans. I haven’t read any for a while, plus I’ve been getting through book after book after book, so it was nice to take a lighthearted break!I got through some Supergirl, some Batman, and my favourite, Green Arrow, among others.
Batman vol.6 : Bride or Burgular
This Rebirth title continues to go places Batman has never seen. Batman is trying to prepare himself for a new life with a potential wedding to Catwoman. Will Batman continue on his new journey next to Selina…or will he return to the dark life of Gotham’s vigilante?
I’m hoping to get to Cinder by Marissa Meyer, which according to my Cleaning out your TBR Closet Challenge, is my oldest TBR book!
Now it’s your turn! What have you been reading this week? Leave a comment/link and I’ll do my best to take a look.
